This Bird-of-Paradise was past its prime as part of a flower arrangement and headed for the trash before I intercepted it for a photo shoot. It was dried out and faded, which I chose to accentuate with hard, direct light. The resulting image is strong and stark, emphasizing the flower's angular shape. Even though the usually vibrant tropical colors have faded, its distinctive shape is still proud.
